Over $18 million has been spent so far by the Obama administration to fly “unaccompanied children” caught illegally crossing into the United States to parents and relatives inside the country.
These numbers, provided by Immigration and Customs Enforcement, were given in a response to a question from Senator Ted Cruz.
“This shows how fundamentally flawed our approach to immigration enforcement has been in the Obama administration,” a Senate aide told FoxNews.com.
The Obama administration deems this practice as appropriate, even though it continues to battle growing numbers of Central American migrants crossing the U.S.-Mexican border.
The ICE figures show that $18.5 million has been spent from March 2009 to Sept. 2015 to fly unaccompanied minors from the U.S.-Mexican border to live with relatives, many of whom are in the U.S. illegally themselves.
“This admission by ICE demonstrates that the United States is a party to countless conspiracies by illegal aliens to violate our immigration laws, by facilitating their illegal journey into the United States,” the Senate aide said.
“While ICE has spent millions of taxpayer dollars flying these young migrants to … their chosen destination, it has not taken any action against their illegal alien family members who paid to have them smuggled to the United States,” the Senate source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said.
It is reported that about 10,000 children were transported by charter flights between June 2014 and September 2015.
