During the White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner on Saturday, comedian Hasan Minhaj wasted no time attacking President Donald Trump and his administration.
Hasan, who works as a Daily Show correspondent, described Trump as the “liar-in-chief,” attacked his immigration policy, and also made some personal insults at Attorney General Jeff Sessions and Vice President Mike Pence.
“Welcome to the series finale of the White House Correspondents’ Dinner,” Minhaj said as he started his politically-charged monologue.
“The leader of our country is not here. And that’s because he lives in Moscow,” Minhaj said to applause from the crowd. The attendees included celebrities, politicians, and journalist from some of the largest media organizations in the country.
President Trump did not attend the WHCD, making it the first time in 36 years that a sitting president did not attend.
“I think he’s in Pennsylvania because he can’t take a joke” Minhaj said.
“Donald Trump doesn’t care about free speech,” he added.
Even though Minhaj was asked not to mock Trump and his administration, he wasted no time attacking the Vice President, saying that his wife didn’t let him come “because apparently one of you ladies is ovulating.”
“He tweets at 3 a.m. sober. Who is tweeting at 3 a.m. sober?” Minhaj said. “Donald Trump – because it’s 10 a.m. in Russia. Those are business hours.”
Minhaj then turned his scorn at Sessions.
“Jeff Sessions could not be here tonight. He is doing a pre-civil war enactment. On his RSVP he wrote, ‘No.’ Just ‘no’ — Which happens to be his second favorite n-word,” Minhaj said to an audible groan from the crowd.
Not even White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer escaped Minhaj’s attacks.
“Spicer isn’t here tonight because I think he’s at home Googling how to fake his own death,” he said.
