New York Daily News writer Gersh Kuntzman wrote an article Thursday entitled “Major League Baseball Must Permanently Retire ‘God Bless America,’ A Song That Offends Everyone,” where he asserts that “’God Bless America’ should be sent permanently to the bench.” Kuntzman says he was initially thankful for Major League Baseball’s decision to play the pro-America anthem after the Islamic terror attacks on September 11, 2001, but says eventually, the “shared heartache” of 9/11 that “provided catharsis” soon “became headache.”
However, Kuntzman soon went completely off the rails and started twisting reality: “So, I ask you this – if you’d just emigrated to the United States in pursuit of the American dream and you wanted to become involved in America’s favorite pass-time, and every time you go to a game, you are forced to stand up, remove your hat and place your hand over your heart in salute of a country that is not your own (yet), would you be happy with that? Of course not.”
“But you know who is?” he asked. “Trump-loving baseball fans. In fact, all Republicans, but the Trump lovers in particular. And they won’t hide it, either. They will have a ton of pop-corn all around them, a couple of beers, a dozen corndog sticks and a whole buffet. And they will make sure to give you an under-the-eye look or two if you’re not covered head to toe in symbols of the teams playing the current game. God forbid you should be wearing a turban or hijab, then you will really be in trouble. And whether we like it or not – that’s open space oppression and discrimination.”
“And when you’re faced with that kind of psychological torture on an almost daily basis, what are you to do?” Kuntzman argued. “The only thing you’re left with – use terror to set the record straight and show everybody else that you have just as much right to be there as the rest of them. That’s why we today have more lone-wolf terrorist attacks and suicide bombers than ever in history. It is because immigrants are fed up with being promised religious liberty and then arriving to see they have to remove their hats every time a game starts. Do you have any idea how long it takes to set up a turban? It’s incredible.”
And then he really went for it: “Therefore, when they’re walking down the street, minding their own business, and they come across a Trump-loving baseball fan who is borderline getting ready to either spit at them or take a swing, what should they do? Stand there and take it? Or hit the button and blow them up sky-high? If I were them, I’d do the latter. Because this country wasn’t built by white Christians. It used to belong to the Native Americans, who were slaughtered and then rounded up in reservations like the Nazis used to do. Therefore, Republicans who watch baseball and are going to vote for Donald Trump are, in fact, modern Nazis.”
“And do you remember what we used to do to Nazis back in the day? Pretty much the same thing that oppressed immigrants are trying to do to defend themselves today. Only this time, they are being blamed for it. Is it just me or are have we started living in a parallel universe somewhere along the way? Because, the roles have obviously reversed. And that is never a good thing,” Kuntzman concluded.
