Civil rights attorney Lisa Bloom warned over the weekend that Donald Trump’s presidency could lead to the repeal of legalized abortion within the next year. On Sunday, Bloom told MSNBC host Joy Ann Reid that the Supreme Court’s Roe v. Wade decision could be reversed thanks to Ohio’s so-called “heartbeat bill,” which bans abortions before many women even know that they are pregnant. “Because Donald Trump can appoint Supreme Court justices, he’s going to appoint one immediately,” she remarked. “We have three others who are the liberals who are 78 years or older. So it is a very, very real risk that Roe v. Wade ends in 2017 or 2018.”
“And that’s exactly why we need to sound the alarm right here and right now that there is a very real possibility that as of next year, women aren’t going to be able to have abortions of their own choosing,” she added. “As you can see, actions have been undertaken to secure the repeal of legalized abortion, and with it, an era of free will in this country will end for women. And what that means, unfortunately, is that we are all running out of time. The clock is ticking, dear ladies throughout the country, and with every passing second, the chances that each and every one of us is going to be able to have a legal abortion are decreasing. And that’s why we need to act right now.”
Bloom then argued that women throughout America who are interested in having an abortion while that’s still possible “should hurry up and get to work,” because time is running out. “You need to be with your partners right now, hard at work creating new lives. Because, let’s face it – if you go for it right now, like, right this second, you might still have a chance at getting pregnant and getting in a position where you’re still eligible for a legal abortion.”
“On the other hand,” Bloom continued, “if you’re looking to get the experience of an abortion, but aren’t willing to put in the work or are currently single and can’t source the genetic material, let’s just say the situation isn’t looking very good for you, ladies. Granted, there are always sperm banks, but the procedure takes way too long and the risk of still being too late is high. The old fashioned way of conceiving a child is much safer, quicker and overall better. I would personally recommend that as the better option in this case, definitely.”
The attorney also argued, “Because, you’ve seen what our President-elect is about to do. We could be looking at illegal abortions as early as next year. So, even if you hop to it and get pregnant tonight, there’s still a chance you’re too late. But, one never knows until they try. My advice to you is – take the risk. Take charge of your man and get what you need from him. Ultimately, even if you’re too late for an abortion, you’ll still end up with a miniature version of yourself, which isn’t that bad either, given the fact that illegal immigrants are going to overrun us in the following years anyway. After all, you know what they say – you can never have too much cannon meat,” she concluded.
