Liberal documentary filmmaker Michael Moore is encouraging Americans to take to the streets to protest the inauguration of President-elect Donald Trump. “Disrupt the inauguration. The Majority have spoken – by nearly 2.7 million votes & counting! Silence is not an option,” Moore tweeted Wednesday morning to his three million Twitter followers. Moore’s tweet linked to a webpage of DistruptJ20, a social justice campaign calling for “a bold mobilization against the inauguration of Donald Trump on January 20, 2017.” The organization is planning protests on inauguration day in D.C., but insists that “if you can’t make it to Washington, D.C. on January 20, take to the streets wherever you are.
The tweet was sent just hours after his appearance at a CNN town hall where he called the President-elect a “malignant narcissist” to audible groans from the crowd. During the appearance, however, Moore also urged “Mexicans all around the world” to protest the inauguration of Donald Trump as the President of the United States and also show their dissatisfaction with the fact that unregistered immigrants in the country aren’t allowed to vote. “This injustice must be corrected simultaneously with the injustice inflicted on our country when Donald Trump stole the presidency from right under Hillary Clinton’s nose,” he argued.
“Unregistered immigrants in this country make a significant portion of the population, and as such, could have been a formidable force during the election,” he added. “They could have easily tipped the scale and made all the difference in the votes. In fact, if America were a real democracy and a country in which everybody was allowed to vote regardless of their sex, age, or legal status and citizenship, we would not have ended up with a racist for a president. If undocumented immigrants were allowed to vote, Hillary Clinton would have been the president today. And Donald Trump knows that; he knows the power that undocumented immigrants have and that’s why he didn’t allow them to vote.”
He continued, “And that’s why, my dear fellow Mexicans, I am urging you to take to the streets wherever in the world you may be – so that we can finally stand before the diseased degenerate that is president Trump and tell him, ‘this is us; this is our power and our strength. You couldn’t silence us, not now, not ever.’ Because that’s the only approach a man like that understands. He doesn’t respond to reason, he doesn’t respond to logic – the only thing he responds to is sheer power and strength. And that’s exactly what we need to amass if we’re going to really change this country for the better.”
“America deserves a president who is not a racist, not a bigot, not a compulsive liar and cheater. Maybe, just maybe, we’d do okay with an embezzler or someone who accepts Arab lobby money or even isn’t so good with computers, but that’s where we draw the line. In other words, America deserves Hillary Clinton. That’s who should have been president all along, and we need to change that right now,” Moore concluded.
